Keep Active - Elite Athletes
It is important for elite athletes to maintain their condition when they are unable to train in a normal situation.
Athletes should be doing cardiovascular fitness, stretching and strengthening at home and should be in regular contact with their teachers, coaches and trainers. You may have a home programme or classes may be held online. The importance is to maintain your fitness.
During the pandemic some athletes may not be able to train because the facilities are closed. You may need to cross train and do activities such as walking, cycling, running and resistance programmes.
Without regular sport deconditioning occurs very quickly and then it will take a longer time to get back to the level that you are at. You will need to work with your trainer, coach or teacher on a graduated return to full training when normal social conditions return.Back
